  • Description

The white porcelain Luohan incense pots are made from Dehua porcelain, which began in the Neolithic period, flourished in the Tang and Song dynasties, and developed in the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is a unique traditional craft, one of which is to use high-quality kaolin clay to shape the sculpture directly, the other is to turn the clay sculpture into a mould and then fill it with paste or topping, and after it has dried, decide whether or not to glaze it, and then put it into the kiln to be fired at over a thousand degrees. The sculpting process is delicate, slender and realistic, and in the carving and relief decoration, the beauty of the craft and the beauty of the material are fused, presenting the temperament of the famous kiln, especially in the white porcelain products, which are thick and light, richly layered, with a creamy white glaze like gelatin and excellent translucency. Dehua ceramics have traditionally been an important output of Chinese trade, with silk and tea known throughout the world as "the treasures of Oriental art".

So how can you identify a good white porcelain craft?
Firstly, look at the quality of the clay, the whiter the clay, the whiter and more moist the fired porcelain.
The whiter the porcelain, the more white and moist. Second, look at the glaze, the whiter the glaze, the more transparent, the whiter the porcelain and more moist. Third, look at the temperature, the higher the firing temperature, to 1280 ℃ or so when the porcelain can be fired more white, more warm and moist as jade, durable, will not change colour.

  • Care

Avoid chemicals, and the porcelain can be cleaned with water or fortnightly with baking soda to reduce stains and maintain its brightness.
