According to Tang Yi Jing's "Nanhai Zigui Neifa Chuan", the custom in the Western region is to pick the teeth with thin strips of Yang Zhi every day, and cook and chew on the branches to purify the teeth, and to brush the teeth with Yang Zhi, so as to eliminate calamities and illnesses, which is known as Toothwood. In addition, people in ancient India believed that the willow branch has a vigorous vitality, the willow metaphor for the flourishing development of Buddhism; willow soft, symbolizing the Bodhisattva constant obedience to the living beings, compassion and salvation; at the same time, "willow" and "stay" resonance, implying that the promotion of Buddhism, to stay for a hundred generations; and The Sanskrit word for purifying vase is "jung chi", which is often used to store water and to purify hands, which is also a sign of cleanliness; therefore, when inviting Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, they also use Yangzhi and purifying water. As a result, Yangzhi and Pure Water gradually became the magic weapons in the hands of Guanyin.
